Japanese Company Creates AI Device to Save AC Power

The tool offered by Daikin uses AI technology that can operate a building’s air conditioning to increase efficiency, making adjustments based on factors such as sunlight levels, outdoor temperatures and the number of computers running in the office.
The service has been added to Daikin’s AirNet remote diagnostic service, which is used to detect faults in air conditioning systems. The AI power-saving tool is offered at no additional cost to existing customers, while network devices can be connected to equipment already installed.
Quoted from Nikkei AsiaTuesday (10/9), the new service collects heat load data every five minutes from each building zone. The AI system studies the data and controls the speed of the compressor motor in the outdoor unit of the AC equipment.
In a demonstration conducted at Yamaha’s Hamamatsu headquarters, Daikin’s AI controller was able to reduce power consumption by up to 20 percent over a 12-month period.
Through trials of the device at around 20 locations, the company recorded average power savings of 10 percent.
