Tecno Creates Triple Foldable Screen Phone
After introducing the rollable Phantom Ultimate concept last year, Tecno has now showcased the Phantom Ultimate 2, a tri-fold concept device with a screen that can be opened up to a diagonal of 10 inches.
Quoted from GSM Arena, Thursday (29/8), this cellphone can be expanded from a 6.48-inch screen size when folded to a 10-inch LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 1,620 x 2,880 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Tecno claims the Phantom Ultimate 2 is the first foldable phone with TDDI technology that places the display driver and touch sensor on a single chip. The phone also supports floating gestures on the screen and is extremely thin, measuring only 11mm when fully folded thanks to its self-developed dual hinge mechanism.
Tecno tested the complex hinge mechanism for 300,000 folds. The Transsion Holdings brand also developed the thinnest battery cover among all smartphones, measuring just 0.25mm.
The dual hinge also helps minimize screen crease in the middle of the display.
Tecno tested several unique use cases for the Phantom Ultimate 2 including a laptop model with the bottom folded down with a keyboard for taking notes. Tent mode positions the two equal halves of the screen on opposite sides for smooth dual-screen face-to-face conversations with live translation.
The large 10-inch display on the Phantom Ultimate 2 also supports multi-window mode that lets you run three or more apps simultaneously for a less restrictive multitasking experience.
Tecno hasn’t revealed any exact plans for launching its first triple-fold device, but this is certainly an interesting first glimpse into the future of the foldable device market.
