OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati Resigns
Murati, who was CEO in November when the board fired one of its founders, Sam Altman, made the statement in a post on X.
“I resigned because I wanted to create time and space to carry out my own exploration,” Murati wrote in X’s post, as quoted from ReutersThursday (26/9).
Responding to Murati’s upload, Altman expressed his gratitude for the contribution of the Albanian-born woman.
“We will share more about the transition plans soon, but for now, I wanted to take a moment to simply say thank you,” Altman wrote.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Murati joined OpenAI as VP of Applied AI and Partnerships in December 2020 and was promoted to CTO in May 2022.
Before OpenAI, he worked at virtual and augmented reality startups at Leap Motion and at Tesla.
As CTO, Murati often appears with Altman as the public face of ChatGPT’s creators. When OpenAI launched its GPT-4o model in May, capable of realistic voice conversations, Murati led the presentation.
Murati is the latest in a series of OpenAI executive resignations.
In August, OpenAI co-founder John Schulman said at X that he had joined rival AI company Anthropic, and fellow co-founder Greg Brockman also said at X that he would be taking a sabbatical until the end of the year.
A third co-founder, chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, left OpenAI in May.
