The White House did not respond directly to Elon Musks’ acquisition of Twitter, but emphasized that President Joe Biden had long believed that “tech platforms should be held accountable for the harm they inflicted.”
This comes after Musk on Monday (25/4) reached a deal to buy Twitter for $44 billion.
Musk has promised a more lenient approach to monitoring content on platforms where he promotes his interests, criticizing critics and opinion makers on social and economic issues to his more than 83 million followers.
The outspoken Tesla CEO and one of the world’s richest men said he wanted to buy and privatize Twitter because he didn’t think the platform was fulfilling its purpose as a platform for free speech. [em/lt]
