Ministry of Defense Ukraine reported that the troops Russia raped ten people, including eight children, within an hour today, Friday (20/5).
“Ombudsman: Today, in just one hour, ten reports of rape by the Russian occupier, including eight children, were received from several recently liberated villages in the Kharkiv region,” the ministry said on Twitter.
“Among the children, two ten-year-old boys and one one-year-old boy died from their injuries.”
Russian troops are reportedly raping citizens in Ukraine during the invasion. President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, even briefly mentioned allegations of Russian troops raping Ukrainian citizens in front of their own children.
The special representative of the United Nations (UN) regarding sexual violence in war, Pramilla Patten, also admitted that she had received reports of this kind.
“I received an unverified report regarding cases of sexual violence against boys in Ukraine,” he said, as quoted by The Guardian.
Patten also revealed that it is quite difficult for male victims to report sexual crimes they have experienced.
“It’s hard for women to report [pemerkosaan] because stigma is one of them, but it is more difficult for men to report. We must build a safe atmosphere for all victims to report cases of sexual violence,” he said.
