President’s Government Russia Vladimir Putin expected to attack Ukraine all-out on May 9, 2022.
This was revealed by a number of US officials who said it was possible for Putin to announce the declaration on May 9.
The date coincides with Russian Victory Day which is celebrated every year to commemorate their defeat of Germany during World War II.
Washington officials expect Putin to declare war as a celebration of their military ‘victory’.
Since the beginning of the invasion, Putin has called Russia’s actions against Ukraine a ‘special military operation’. If Putin has declared it officially, then Moscow can exert full powers according to the law.
Under the law, Russia can deploy reservists and conscripts. Currently, Russia is reportedly in dire need of additional troops in Ukraine due to the eastern European country’s fierce resistance.
Ukrainian and Western officials estimate Russia lost 7,000 to 15,000 troops during the invasion.
The shortage of troops is said to be the reason Russia withdrew its troops from the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
Now, Putin’s troops are focused on intensifying attacks in eastern Ukraine, which borders Russia.
Some say the war will be won by Russia, but the US believes Ukraine can be a champion in this conflict if they have the right weapons.
In addition, Ukraine also claims that it will counterattack Russia at the end of May after weapons aid from the West arrive.
