Alarm at the Capitol United States of America beeps as a military plane carrying paratroopers passes for a sporting event in Washington, Wednesday (20/4).
This incident made a number of staff at the location panicked and evacuated.
The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, called this incident an outrageous and frightening mistake. According to him, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) failed to notify Capitol police of the military aircraft that had passed.
“The needless panic caused by this apparent negligence is especially dangerous for members, staff and institutional workers who are still traumatized by the attacks at their workplaces on January 6,” Pelosi said, referring to the attacks on the Capitol January 6, 2021.
Earlier, Capitol police said they were tracking a plane it deemed ‘carried a threat’ to the government compound. The police then evacuated staff and members of congress in the complex.
Minutes later, the police said there was no threat.
Subsequently, the District of Columbia Police reported that the military aircraft was carrying members of the US Army Golden Knights parachuting team. The team then parachuted at the Washington baseball stadium.
Before heading to the stadium, the plane reportedly circled around Washington. The plane is known to have flown from Andrews Military Base in Maryland.
Meanwhile, the FAA declined to comment on this incident.
