Kim Jong-un helped lift the coffin carrying the body of the military leader North KoreaMarshal of the Korean People’s Army Hyon Chol-hae.
The North Korean leader helped lift Chol-hae’s coffin because he played an important role in educating Kim to become North Korea’s leader, replacing his father, Kim Jong-il.
North Korean state media, KCNA as quoted from AFP, released a photo when Kim attended Hyon’s funeral which took place on Sunday (22/5). He was also seen putting the coffin into the grave. In the process, Kim appeared not to be wearing a mask in the midst of the Covid-19 wave that hit the country.
Regarding Covid-19 in North Korea, Kim implemented a number of new rules. Starting from restricting activities, deploying soldiers to help distribute drugs to urging residents to rinse their mouths with salt.
He blamed lazy and negligent officials as one of the causes of the worsening of Covid-19 cases.
North Korea is experiencing a spike in Covid-19 infections. As of Sunday (22/5), cases of fever suspected to be related to the corona virus reached 167,650 people.
A number of parties assess that North Korea does not accurately report the number of cases in their country. Official media also did not record the number of positive Covid-19 patients and those who died.
So far, North Korea is thought to have two million suspected cases of Covid-19.
