Director Ryan Adriandhy reveal the initial leak about Jumbo, animated movie made by Visinema Animation. Jumbo is Ryan Adriandhy’s feature-length animated film debut as a director.
In a joint interview CNNIndonesia.com on Tuesday (19/4), Ryan said Jumbo is a film adventure and friendship in childhood.
The adventure story will discuss the issue of bullying that often occurs, and is combined with a magical touch.
“Essentially, this is a film that at its core is a film of friendship, adventure, childhood, with a touch of magic,” said Ryan.
“This film also tries to talk about something that is also important in today’s world, namely bullying.”
Not only that, Ryan also said that Jumbo will present stories that contain family values, such as respecting time and keeping promises.
The idea for the Jumbo story is based on the life experiences of Ryan and his team of writers. He mentioned that the story in this film was taken from childhood, the closest people, and childhood memories of friendship.
The 2020 FFI Cup winner for the best Animated Short Film also explained that his source of inspiration while working on Jumbo came from various storytellers, both animators, writers, and mangaka.
Fujiko F. Fujio, the mangaka behind the popular Doraemon manga, Roald Dahl, the author of Willy Wonka, and Peanuts comic artist Charles Schulz.
Ryan’s inspiration also came from director Domee Shi, who recently released the animated film Turning Red. According to him, Domee Shi gave inspiration on how to explore stories and visuals through animation.
“Yesterday’s Domee Shi gave me a lot of inspiration about what people dare to try with technology and animation,” Ryan said.
In addition, Ryan said that the world in Jumbo animation has a close relationship with the world of Indonesians. He hopes that the audience will be able to feel close when watching Jumbo.
“When my friends watch it, actually the world is very close to the world of Indonesians,” he said.
“I’m not specifically saying where, but I hope Indonesians can find themselves, their families, their friends, or places they knew when they were little,” Ryan said.
Jumbo has been working on since early 2020 with a story made by Skriptura, Visinema’s writers room. Anggia Kharisma fills the producer chair for this film, who is also the producer of the Cemara Family to NKCTHI.
Currently, Jumbo is still in production and is scheduled to be released in 2023. Ryan hopes that the production process for his debut film will run smoothly and can be seen in theaters next year.
“Just pray that everything goes smoothly, that cinemas are also safe, and we can watch Jumbo together in Indonesian cinemas,” he said.
