President Joko Widodo ask the President of Russia Vladimir Putin stop the war in Ukraine.
Jokowi conveyed this when he called Putin. He emphasized Indonesia’s position in supporting peace.
“I underlined that the war must stop immediately and provide an opportunity for peace negotiations. Indonesia is ready to contribute to achieving this goal.”,” said Jokowi through his official Twitter account, Friday (29/4).
Jokowi said he also discussed the current situation in Ukraine. Jokowi and Putin also discussed G20 cooperation in the communication.
Jokowi’s statement is in line with Russia’s official statement. Through the Kremlin’s official website, Russia acknowledged that there were talks about Ukraine in Jokowi-Putin communications.
“At the request of Joko Widodo, Vladimir Putin outlined Russia’s views on the situation in Ukraine regarding the ongoing special military operations,” read a Russian statement.
Russia confirmed the two will communicate again in the future.
Previously, Jokowi also contacted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He also discussed the Ukraine-Russia war when he called Zelensky.
“Yesterday, I spoke with the President of Ukraine, @ZelenkyyUa. I repeat, Indonesia supports all efforts for peace negotiations to be successful and is ready to provide humanitarian assistance,” Jokowi said on Twitter on Thursday (28/4).
Russia has invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The invasion was carried out after Ukraine’s plan to join NATO. The invasion is still ongoing today.
