Former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Jusuf Kalla (JK) to Sultan Hamengkubuwono X won the highest award for the main service star of The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun from the Government of Japan.
The award was given directly by Japan’s Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace, Tuesday (10/5).

According to the release, the Order of the Rising Sun award is given to individuals with outstanding achievements in the fields of international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, and environmental preservation.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia (Indonesian Ambassador) to Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia, Heri Akhmadi, said that this award is a form of Japan’s respect for the world’s best figures, including Indonesia.
“I am also proud, The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun is Japan’s highest award. This is a form of Japanese respect for Mr. Vice President Jusuf Kalla who has contributed to strengthening Indonesia-Japan relations,” said Heri in the same release.
Besides Jusuf Kalla, this year’s Order of the Rising Sun award was also won by the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, and the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan in 2013-2016, Yusron Ihza.
