India sends 35 tons of relief goods to Vietnam, New Zealand supports 1 million dollars


On September 15, the Indian Government launched a campaign called Sadbhav (Goodwill) to provide humanitarian assistance to Southeast Asian countries to overcome the consequences of storm Yagi (storm No. 3).

On September 15, India transported emergency relief goods worth 1 million USD to Vietnam.

A 35-ton shipment of essential goods such as water purifiers, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen utensils, water tanks, buckets with taps, and solar lamps… arrived at Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) on the night of September 15.

According to the Indian Embassy in Vietnam, the shipment was then handed over to representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and representatives of Tuyen Quang province.

The Government of India affirmed that the humanitarian assistance to Vietnam is a testament to the strong and long-standing relationship between the two countries, marked by the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Operation Sadbhav is part of India’s larger effort to contribute to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the ASEAN region, in line with India’s long-standing Act East Policy.

In addition to the Indian Government, according to the Indian embassy, ​​businesses and members of the Indian community in Vietnam have also provided support and contributions at various levels to people affected by storm No. 3 and Vietnamese authorities.

New Zealand provides NZ$1 million in support

Also related to international assistance, on September 16, the New Zealand Government announced a contribution of 1 million New Zealand dollars to support Vietnam’s efforts in overcoming the severe consequences of storm No. 3.

The aid will be channelled through New Zealand’s disaster response partner NGOs and United Nations agencies in Vietnam, focusing on emergency response and livelihood recovery.

In a letter sent to Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son today, September 16, New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Winston Peters said the New Zealand Government would like to send its deepest condolences to the victims of storm No. 3 in northern Vietnam.

“All New Zealanders’ thoughts are with those affected and the rescue workers on the frontline. New Zealand looks forward to leveraging the many aspects of our bilateral relationship to strengthen Vietnam’s future resilience and ability to recover from such devastating disasters,” he said.

New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms. Caroline Beresford, affirmed that as a Strategic Partner of Vietnam, New Zealand stands side by side with the Government and people of Vietnam during this extremely difficult time.

“We hope our support will quickly reach those in need, contribute to emergency efforts and help affected communities rebuild their lives,” she said.
