North Korea recently confirmed case Covid-19. As a result of the spread of the case, several schools in North Korea had to be closed and students were advised to study from home.
“All students in Pyongyang have stopped coming to school for face-to-face classes and are participating in distance learning from home,” an official from Pyongyang told reporters. Radio Free Asia.
“Frequent power outages and intranet network disruptions are causing difficulties,” the official said.
North Korea’s Ministry of Education also announced an order for students not to come to school on May 11.
However, a resident in Pyongyang said few students had equipment for remote classes.
“In general, only 2 to 3 percent of students have a computer at home, so distance learning is meaningless, unless they are elite students from school No.1,” said the source.
The development of the corona virus infection in North Korea is now affecting educational facilities.
Multiple sources RFA said positive cases of Covid-19 were detected in two military academy officials in Pyongyang City. The two of them also participated in a military parade last April.
“At the beginning of last week, only five students were confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 at Kim Jong-il Military Political University, but this number has risen to dozens,” said a source from Pyongyang City, Tuesday (17/5), anonymously.
“The National Emergency Quarantine Command is running tests on students who have symptoms such as high fever and shortness of breath. Students who tested positive were immediately taken by ambulance to an isolation facility on the outskirts of Pyongyang,” the source said.
The source also said about 200 people from Kim Jong-il University who participated in the military parade are currently undergoing quarantine. The student is also checked for temperature every day and given fever reducer medication if necessary.
In addition, the North Korean government closed the area around the university and ordered students to stay in their dormitories, even if they did not take part in military parades.
Not only at Kim Jong-il University, the government also found positive cases of Covid-19 at Kim Il-sung Military University.
Another source from Pyongyang City said that more than 30 students at Kim Il-sung University have tested positive for Covid-19. They were then taken to an isolation facility on the outskirts of Pyongyang.
In addition, the 300 students of Kim Il-sung University who participated in the parade were ordered to quarantine and undergo daily tests.
“The area around Kim Il-sung Military University is limited. Schools are closed and all students and workers are not allowed to leave the dormitories until the end of the month,” said a second source.
