Benedict Cumberbatch give a helping hand to refugees Ukraine whose country is being invaded Russia. Cumberbatch is waiting for refugees who have arrived in the UK to live in his home.
“Essentially, I’ve always wanted to give them some stability after the chaos they’ve been through. And that will be done in my house,” Cumberbatch explained to Sky NewsTuesday (26/4).
Cumberbatch said he is providing this assistance through a program called Refugees at Home which has been designed to accommodate refugees from Ukraine.
“They have managed to get out of Ukraine, I always monitor their progress every day,” he said.
“Unfortunately they are currently undergoing a medical examination process. I will not say anything else because it will interfere with their personal sphere,” continued Cumberbatch about the current condition of the refugees.
The Doctor Strange actor also explained that he had helped several Ukrainian families who wanted to return to England to be reunited with their extended family.
“I’ve been trying to help some Ukrainian families to meet their families who live here (UK). They really also really want to help their relatives in Ukraine, but it costs a lot of money,” said Cumberbatch.
“Therefore, I decided to help financially so that it can lighten their burden,” he said.
Refugees at Home is a scheme initiated by Benedict Cumberbatch to offer housing to refugees voluntarily.
This program, said Cumberbatch, also serves as a platform to provide various supports for refugees so that they can overcome their trauma.
“I’m working on an amazing charity project called Refugees at Home, which not only relieves the UK government, but also offers other support such as dealing with psychological trauma for refugees,” he said.
However, he also explained that this assistance still requires a lot of helping hands so that the program can run effectively.
“No matter how much help we provide as hosts, we clearly don’t have the skills as mental health professionals to handle things like that,” he said.
“I hope that more and more people seek further assistance to appreciate their efforts, and many people have already done so,” added Cumberbatch.
Benedict Cumberbatch is currently going through a series of promotions for his new film Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.
Present on the red carpet at Trafalgar Square, London, Cumberbatch was seen wearing clothes with the colors of the Ukrainian flag while promoting his new film.
He was joined by actors Elizabeth Olson and Benedict Wong, who was also accompanied by director Sam Raimi.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness airs on May 5 in Indonesia.
