Guangzhou City Government, Chinacanceled hundreds of flights and conducted mass tests on 5.6 million people after detecting one suspected case Covid-19.
AFP reports, the government ordered mass tests of nearly a third of Guangzhou City’s residents after ‘abnormal’ test results were found at the city’s airport.
Shortly after the case was discovered at the airport, the government also canceled hundreds of flights to and from Guangzhou City.
Currently, several regions in China are experiencing a spike in Covid-19.
On Thursday (28/4), China reported a total of 11,367 new cases. More than 10,000 cases were detected in Shanghai.
Shanghai itself has been in lockdown for several weeks due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.
Not only Shanghai, Beijing also experienced a surge in cases of the corona virus. The city held mass tests of its nearly 21 million residents this week.
One of Beijing’s districts, Chaoyang, has also implemented a lockdown since Thursday (28/4). Some residents fear that the Chinese government will implement a wider lockdown in Beijing.
Meanwhile, Hangzhou City has also implemented strict rules in the form of mandatory Covid-19 tests every 48 hours if residents want to access public places and public transportation modes.
