An Al Jazeera journalist shot dead by soldiers Israel while covering the clashes between the Zionist state troops and citizens Palestine today, Wednesday (11/5).
A Palestinian official reported that the journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, was “killed” by Israeli forces while reporting on the attack in Jenin City.
As reported Reuters, the Palestinian Ministry of Health later confirmed the death of Abu Akleh. They also stated that another reporter, Ali Samodi, was injured.
A journalist Al Jazeera in the field reported, Abu Akleh was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but his life could not be saved.
In his news, Al Jazeera wrote “Israeli forces shot dead Al Jazeera journalist Shiren Abu Akleh in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.”
Al Jazeera reported that the cause of Abu Akleh’s death remained unclear. However, the video of the incident shows Abu Akleh being shot in the head.
“What we know now is that the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced his death,” Al Jazeera journalist Nida Ibrahim said while reporting from the Palestinian city of Ramallah.
He later said, “As you can imagine, this was a shock to the journalists he worked with.”
Meanwhile, the Israeli military stated that its troops had indeed opened fire in response to the attack in Jenin.
However, they also claim “the possibility arises, which is being investigated, that the reporter may have been shot by Palestinian gunmen.”
